Murphy Oil – Tupper West Power Plant
Gas Liquids Engineering (GLE) provided engineering, procurement, and construction support for a 26.4 MW power generation station providing all electrical power to the Tupper West Gas Plant (also designed by GLE. See Feature Project).
- The installation consisted of eight (8) 3.3 MW reciprocating Jenbacher JGS630 gas engine generators
- The power generation station feeds the plant with 13.8 kVA power. The project included: electrical, piping, structural and civil design; design and procurement of the generator building and associated HVAC systems; design of the generator cooling and air intake subsystems; and specification and procurement of the generators and auxiliary equipment.
- In the initial project phases, the scope included an NPV cost assessment of the generation options evaluating gas-turbine engines versus reciprocating engines against capital, operating and maintenance costs.
- The design is integrated with the plant control system, including plant DCS, unit control systems and ESD system. The power plant operates islanded from the grid. The control system includes a load management system for automatic loading and unloading of engines and management of reserve capacity.
